Volunteer Opportunities
Lutherans believe that the central calling—the vocation—of the Christian life is to recognize the gift of being God's child by grace and to do God's will. To do God's will is to serve our neighbor. God the creator has no needs that we can fulfill. Therefore, to please God we serve those whom God loves—our fellow human beings in the world. The outcome is that we participate in building a community in which faith and love are core values.
Several of the ways we serve fellow members of our community are listed in the table below. One way to reach out is to help provide a weekly home cooked meal for our students (remember dorm food?). Other ways include serving as an usher, lector (reader of the Scripture) for our Sunday Worship, or as an assistant in the distribution of communion. Members and guests are served by those who host the Fellowship Hour that follows the Sunday Liturgy. We can also serve others by bringing God's gift of beauty into our Church with floral offerings at each Sunday Liturgy and by maintaining the aesthetic quality of our grounds. Those outside our parish are served by members who prepare food bags for the homeless or participate in the work of Lutheran Social Services. Each of these services is an opportunity to volunteer. We always welcome the opportunity to explore new ways of being Christ's hands in our world.
